Translations

Translations (Greenlandic: Nutsigassat) is an essay film on language as a coloniser of foreign landscapes. The Danish names imposed on Greenland's mountains and coasts — Sermitsiaq, Kingittorsuaq — pulled them away from both their semantic and geographical meaning, while the concrete blocks of Nuuk replaced the small settlements that the Danish state shut down in the 1960s and 70s. Tinne Zenner builds a critical work on 16mm where the vast Greenlandic landscape pushes back against the history forced upon it.
