When 800 young people occupied the abandoned military barracks on Bådsmandstræde, Christiania was born — a wild experiment in freedom, community, and anarchist hippie culture run by consensus. The film travels through 50 years of stories, from the women's fight to close Pusher Street to the assemblies, the conflicts, the victories. With rare access to the inside of this universe, it shows the humour, the idealism and the hard realities, in an honest, wonky and moving portrait of holding onto every idea — and still keeping a place worth being in.
